AI phone system for small businesses in France

An AI phone system answers your business line for you: it understands what the caller wants, answers from your information, books an appointment or transfers the call. In France, published plans start between €23.99 and €89 a month (October 2026). For 40 three-minute calls, the bill runs from €23.99 to €79 at four providers.
Prices checked October 10, 2026 on each provider’s own website. In France this product goes by “standard téléphonique IA” or “agent vocal IA”. LobbyStack wrote this guide and sells an AI receptionist, so it appears in its own row, with its limits for a business based in France, starting with the lack of a French number. For a service staffed by people, see our comparison of outsourced phone answering in France.
What is an AI phone system?
An AI phone system is a voice agent that answers your business number in natural language. Callers say what they need in their own words instead of pressing 1 or 2. The agent answers from the information you give it (hours, prices, service area), takes a message or books an appointment, and transfers the calls you choose to a person.
It often gets confused with two other tools:
- An interactive voice response (IVR) menu: a keypad menu that routes the call without handling it. Our guide to the automated answering service compares menus, voicemail and AI.
- A virtual phone system: cloud telephony that rings your team’s desk phones and apps, with queues and menus. Ringover, Aircall and 3CX sell these and also offer an AI agent.
This guide compares AI agents that work on their own, with your current line or a number they provide.
What does an AI phone system do for a small business?
It takes the calls your team can’t: during a job, an appointment or after closing time. It answers common questions, books into your calendar, logs quote requests and transfers urgent calls. Depending on the plan, you get a summary or a transcript of every call.
Its limits, worth knowing before you hand it your line:
- It follows your instructions. A question your information doesn’t cover ends in a message or a transfer.
- It can mishear a name, an address or a caller in a noisy place. Read the transcripts during the first week.
- An angry customer or a sensitive matter needs a person. Decide in advance who takes the transfer.
How much does an AI phone system cost in France in 2026?
Entry plans published in France run from €23.99 a month for 250 minutes at Konten to €89 before VAT at AirAgent. Most sell a bundle of minutes, then charge €0.12 to €0.39 for each extra minute. LobbyStack charges $30 for 150 minutes, then $0.20 a minute. Each provider’s name links to its pricing page.
| Plan | Entry price | Included | Extra minute | Setup | Number | Calendar |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Konten Starter | €23.99 a month, VAT basis not stated | 250 minutes | €0.12 | No fee listed | French number included | No appointment booking |
| Tala Découverte | €29 a month before VAT | 50 minutes, 1 simultaneous call | €0.20 | Expert setup: €300 before VAT, one time | 1 number included, country not stated | Not stated |
| Callsens Starter | €79 a month before VAT | 200 minutes, 5 simultaneous calls | €0.29 | No fee | 1 number included, country not stated | Google Calendar, Calendly |
| Elio | €79 a month before VAT | 150 minutes | €0.39 | €879 before VAT, waived | You keep your number through call forwarding | Not stated for the standard plan |
| AirAgent Starter | €89 a month before VAT | “Jusqu’à 250 appels” (up to 250 calls), 1 simultaneous call | “+ 0,30 € par min HT” (€0.30 a minute) | Setup by an engineer from €490 | 1 number included, country not stated | Google Calendar, Cal.com |
| LobbyStack Starter (ours) | $30 a month | 150 minutes, no plan limit on simultaneous calls | $0.20 | No fee | Number in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia or New Zealand | Google Calendar |
- AirAgent shows “+ 0,30 € par min HT” under each price without saying whether it applies from the first minute. Its FAQ charges €0.30 a minute once you reach the plan’s limits. Get this in writing.
- Elio states its prices are “en vigueur au 4 octobre 2026” (in effect October 4, 2026). The other pages don’t date their prices.

What 40 and 100 calls a month cost
The table assumes 3 minutes per call: 120 minutes for 40 calls and 300 minutes for 100. That’s our assumption; Elio uses about 1.5 minutes per call in its own estimates. Each cell uses the cheapest plan, extra minutes included.
| Plan | 40 calls (120 minutes) | 100 calls (300 minutes) |
|---|---|---|
| Konten | €23.99 | €29.99 |
| Tala | €43 before VAT | €79 before VAT |
| Callsens | €79 before VAT | €108 before VAT |
| Elio | €79 before VAT | €137.50 before VAT |
| AirAgent | €89 before VAT at least | €89 before VAT at least, plus whatever minutes its grid charges |
| LobbyStack (ours) | $30 | $60 |
- Konten: 250 minutes cover 120. At 300 minutes, €23.99 + 50 × €0.12 = €29.99, less than the €41.99 Growth plan.
- Tala: €29 + 70 × €0.20 = €43. At 300 minutes, €29 + 250 × €0.20 = €79, less than the €99 Essentiel plan.
- Callsens: €79 + 100 × €0.29 = €108.
- Elio: €79 + 150 × €0.39 = €137.50.
- LobbyStack: $30 + 150 × $0.20 = $60, less than the $100 Pro plan with 500 minutes.
What the entry price leaves out
- Setup fees. AirAgent charges from €490 for setup by an engineer and Tala €300 before VAT. Elio waives its setup, listed at €879 before VAT. Callsens, Konten and LobbyStack list none.
- Simultaneous calls. Tala’s and AirAgent’s entry plans take one call at a time. An extra line costs €8 a month before VAT at Tala and €10 a month at AirAgent. Callsens Starter takes five. LobbyStack plans don’t limit simultaneous calls; if you set an overage spending cap and reach it, new calls get a busy signal.
- Text messages. AirAgent charges €0.10 per text before VAT. Konten doesn’t send texts. LobbyStack sends confirmation texts to US and Canadian numbers only.
- VAT. Add 20% if you can’t recover it: Callsens’ €79 before VAT becomes €94.80.
- Trials. Konten gives 100 minutes with no card, Tala 7 days for €1 before VAT, and Callsens 7 days (card required, nothing charged during the trial). Elio has no free trial.
Does an AI phone system need a French number?
For a business in France, the simplest setup keeps your current number: you forward it to the AI phone system and your customers notice nothing. Your carrier bills forwarding as a call to the destination number. Forwarding to a French number falls within many plans. Forwarding to a foreign number is billed at international rates unless your plan covers that country.
Three setups:
- A French number provided. Konten includes a French number. Callsens, Tala and AirAgent include a number without naming the country on their pricing pages, so ask.
- Your own number, forwarded. Elio works through forwarding from your carrier and publishes forwarding codes for the main French carriers.
- A foreign number. LobbyStack offers numbers in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand, and nowhere else. Forwarding from your French line goes abroad.
Our guide on how to forward business calls explains the types: all calls, when busy, or when unanswered.
LobbyStack for a business in France: what works and what doesn’t
LobbyStack charges $0.20 per extra minute, at the low end of the French plans in this guide (€0.12 to €0.39), and includes booking and transfers from $30 a month. But it bills in dollars, has no French number and doesn’t text French mobiles. For many businesses based in France, a local provider will be simpler.
What works:
- Starter at $30 for 150 minutes, then $0.20 a minute; Pro at $100 for 500 minutes, then $0.18. No setup fee.
- Calls open in French if you set French as the default, then the receptionist answers in the caller’s language: 70+ languages on OpenAI’s GPT-Live. That helps if you serve tourists or international customers.
- Booking into Google Calendar, transfers of urgent calls to your number, and a summary, transcript and recording of every call.
- Calls under 10 seconds and calls the receptionist ends as spam don’t count toward usage.
- The code is MIT open source: a technical team can audit it or self-host it with its own OpenAI and Twilio accounts.
What doesn’t, from France:
- No French number: forwarding to a US, Canadian, UK, Australian or New Zealand number costs whatever your carrier charges for that country. The published code, even self-hosted, offers only those five countries.
- Billing in US dollars: the euro amount depends on the exchange rate and your bank.
- Booking confirmation and reminder texts only go to US and Canadian numbers. Email alerts to your team work anywhere.
- Google Calendar only, and no direct CRM or business-software integration: you connect other tools through signed webhooks or the REST API.
- Transfers go to one number, with no introduction of the caller to the person who answers.
Pick a French provider if you want a French number, texts to your customers’ mobiles or an invoice in euros. Konten has the cheapest minute among the entry plans but doesn’t book appointments, Callsens takes five calls at once on its entry plan, and Elio waives its setup fee. LobbyStack fits better if your callers speak many languages, if your team wants to host the code itself, or if you also operate in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia or New Zealand.
How do you choose an AI phone system?
- List your call reasons. Write down the ten most common questions and the calls that must go to a person.
- Work out your minutes. Multiply monthly calls by their average length, then apply each plan’s bundle and extra-minute rate.
- Check the number and the forwarding. Ask which country the provided number is in, and ask your carrier what forwarding costs.
- Test the transfer. Have a call transferred to your mobile and see what happens if you don’t answer.
- Test with real calls. Use the trials: 100 minutes at Konten, 7 days at Tala and Callsens, 30 browser minutes at LobbyStack.
- Read the transcripts in the first week. Fix your instructions wherever the agent hesitates.
Questions about AI phone systems in France
Does an AI phone system speak French?
Yes. The five French plans in this guide answer in French. LobbyStack opens each call in French if you set French as the default language, then answers in the caller’s language, among 70+ languages. During the trial, test the accent and how it pronounces your street names, product names and staff names.
Can I try an AI phone system for free?
Yes, at several providers. Konten gives 100 minutes with no card, Callsens 7 days with nothing charged, and Tala 7 days for €1 before VAT. Elio has no free trial. LobbyStack’s free plan gives you 30 browser voice minutes with no card and no telephone number, so it can’t answer your business line.
How is an AI phone system different from a phone answering service?
A phone answering service puts a person on the line and charges per call; an AI phone system answers at any hour and charges per minute. For 40 three-minute calls, expect €50 to €118.60 before VAT with a French answering service, versus €23.99 to €79 with an AI phone system. A person handles sensitive calls better.
Can an AI phone system transfer calls to a person?
Yes, all five providers in this guide describe transfers to your team. You decide when: urgent calls, caller requests or certain hours. At LobbyStack, transfers go to one number. If a transfer fails, the receptionist tells the caller and offers to take a message, and your team can get an alert.
Do I need to switch phone carriers?
No. You keep your line and forward it to the AI phone system’s number: all calls, or only the ones you don’t answer. Your carrier bills forwarding as a call to the destination number. For a foreign number, such as LobbyStack’s, ask your carrier for the exact rate before you switch it on.
Test an AI phone system on your real calls
Note last month’s call count and average length, then compare two or three plans in the 40 and 100 call table. To test LobbyStack, the free plan gives you 30 browser voice minutes with no card and no telephone number. Call it in French with your hardest questions before you pay for a plan and set up forwarding. Create a free account or see pricing.
